Volkswagen Cross Polo : The Ultimate Car

Volkswagen AG, the German automobile manufacturer has started its operations in India in the year 2007 by forming the subsidiary Volkswagen India Private limited (VIPL). VIPL has entered the Indian SUV market with the Touareg in 2013. Because of its poor fuel efficiency and high price it has not fared well in the market when compared to the hatchbacks and sedans from the company.

Lets discuss about the Volkswagen Cross Polo Features. In the last two years there is an increased demand for the compact SUVs. VIPL has the hatchback Polo which is quite popular in India. So they have been planning to introduce a compact SUV on the lines of the Polo. The Volkswagen Cross Polo a beefed up version of the Polo was launched in August 2013. The 1.2 litre capacity Cross Polo originally launched is not produced now. In July 2014 Volkswagen has launched the refreshed model of the Cross Polo with more power.

The Cross Polo comes in colours of deep black, reflex silver and flash red. This sub-4 metre Cross has extra plastic claddings all around to make it appear big. On the exterior it has a new Cross grille with chrome accents, new front bumper with fog lamps, unique rear bumper with silver accents, halogen head lamps in black finish, clear lens tail lamps, body coloured electrically operated ORVMs, a rear defogger, silver shine roof rails and a roof antenna. The new 5 spoke alloy wheels and the Cross polo badgings below the rear doors are the other distinguishable features.

The 5-seater new Cross Polo has a luxurious cabin with titanium black upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, a collapsible steering column, an automatic AC, a 2 Din music system with CD and MP3 players and AM/FM radio and Bluetooth connectivity for telephony and audio controls. The safety features include dual frontal airbags, ABS, an engine immobiliser, central locking and child lock facilities, power windows and dual beam head lights.

The Cross polo is powered by a 1498 cc, 105 ps and 250 NM torque TDi engine which gives mileages of 19.91kmpl and a top speed of 164 kmph. The physical dimensions of the Cross polo are 3987 mm length, 1698 mm width, 1483 mm height, 2469 mm wheel base and 168 mm ground clearance. The boot size is 282 litres which can be increased by folding the rear seat. The R15 alloy wheels have disc brake at the front and drum type at the rear. The suspension is McPherson strut with stability bar at the front and semi independent trailing arm type at the rear.

The competition for the Cross Polo comes from the likes of the Ford EcoSport, the Toyota Etios Cross and the Mahindra Verito Vibe.
